11.23.07 | MDS PRAD Technologies Receives International Award
MDS-PRAD Technologies Corporation is the proud recipient of the 22nd annual Harry T. Jensen Award, in recognition of its outstanding contribution to the improvement of helicopter reliability, maintainability, and/or safety through improved design.
Since 2003, the MDS-PRAD ER-7 erosion resistant coating for gas turbine engine compressor airfoils has been operating on General Electric T58 and T64 engines powering the U.S. Marine Corps CH-46 and H-53 helicopters in numerous desert environments. The high time coated engine has accumulated over 1,800 hours of desert operations and has been on-wing for over 3 years. This compares to an average of 113 hours time-on-wing for uncoated engines in desert operations.
This data underscores the significant improvement in helicopter reliability and maintainability that the MDS-PRAD ER-7 coating has achieved. In addition, application of this innovative coating has resulted in maintenance cost savings of approximately $8M per H-53 helicopter or $120M annually, decreased fuel consumption, and increased safety-of-flight due to engine performance retention.
MDS-PRAD will receive this honour at the AHS Forum 63 Grand Awards Banquet in Virginia Beach, Va., at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007.
