Atlantic Canada International Air Show 2012 Announces Sponsorships - Mar 20, 2012

SUMMERSIDE (pe) – MARCH 20, 2012 – Preparations for the 2012 Atlantic Canada International Air Show are well under way and will once again be held in Summerside. The Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of National Revenue, Deputy Speaker and MLA for Tyne Valley-Linkletter, Paula Biggar, His Worship, Basil Stewart, Mayor of the City of Summerside, announced funding to support this year’s event. Major corporate sponsors to date were also announced.

“Our Government is pleased to invest in the 2012 Atlantic Canada International Air Show; this event is expected to draw visitors from across North America,” said Minister Shea on behalf of the Honourable Bernard Valcourt, Minister of State for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and La Francophonie. “Tourism is a key economic driver for our local economy, and this investment reinforces our government’s commitment to supporting this important industry.”

Air Show officials announced the return of several major sponsors to the event: Mark’s Work Wearhouse is this year’s presenting sponsor. The Atlantic Superstore and Save Easy, and Vector Aerospace have all renewed sponsorship commitments for the 2012, and the Confederation Bridge, President’s Choice Banking and MasterCard have joined as new event sponsors.

The Royal Canadian Air Force Snowbirds and the CF-18 Hornet Demonstration have confirmed their participation this summer with the previously announced US Navy Blue Angels.  Colin Stephenson, Executive Director of the Show reports that “this year’s Summerside Show will be one of a select few in North America that feature two jet demonstration teams, attracting Air Show enthusiasts to Prince Edward Island from all over North America.  The emails and phone calls have already started to come in with questions on tickets and accommodations.”

Organizers are pleased with the progress of planning for the 2012 program, the event website has been launched, and more acts will be announced as the event draws near.

“It is great to receive support from all levels of government, and we are quite pleased to have attracted significant partners from the corporate community,” said Colin Stephenson.

“Additional Aerobatic Acts, Vintage aircraft and many others are showing even more interest in participating as they see what we have attracted on the military side. This is made possible thanks to having such a great array of sponsors in place.”

The Government of Canada, through ACOA’s Business Development Program, will invest $45,000 in the hosting requirements for this year’s Air Show. The Government of Prince Edward Island will contribute $45,000 and the City of Summerside will add $10,000 towards the 2012 event.  There are many levels of corporate sponsorship still available for this year’s show and any interested party should contact the Air Show Organizers to discuss the options.
